Giving

Where the
money actually
goes.

We are barely a year old. Nobody should hand money to a young nonprofit on trust alone, so here is the entire path a dollar takes, start to finish.

The path

Three steps,
and no mystery box.

01 You give

Online, by check, or through an employer matching program. You receive a receipt for your records the same day.

02 The Edward Charles Foundation receives it

We are fiscally sponsored, which means we operate under the Edward Charles Foundation's 501(c)(3) rather than holding our own. ECF receives the gift, issues the tax receipt, and holds the funds.

03 It funds two things

Research, through Team Fox. And the community work: group runs, race entries for people who could not otherwise afford one, and the cost of keeping this running.

Why fiscal sponsorship, in plain terms. A new nonprofit can spend a year and several thousand dollars getting its own 501(c)(3). Operating under an established foundation means your gift is tax deductible today, and that a second organization with its own board sees every dollar that comes in. It is the slower path to independence and the faster path to accountability.

$26 is a mile.
$262 is the
whole distance.

Give once or give monthly. Monthly is worth more than it looks, because it is the only kind of income a young organization can actually plan against.

Online giving opens shortly. The Edward Charles Foundation is finishing the donation page that will handle gifts to Run With Parkinson's. Until it is live we would rather say so than take you to a broken button.

If you would rather give today, email info@runforparkinson.org and we will arrange it by check through the foundation.

Other ways to help

Money is not
the only thing
that moves this.

Run a race for us

Any race, any distance, anywhere, with a fundraising page and something to wear. The race team opens once the giving side is live, and the mailing list hears first.

Ask your employer to match

Many companies double a charitable gift and most employees never check. If yours does, a matching form sent to the foundation turns your gift into two.

Questions about giving
Is my gift tax deductible? +

Yes, to the extent allowed by law. The gift is made to the Edward Charles Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3), restricted to the Run With Parkinson's project. Your receipt comes from the foundation and carries their tax identification number.

Who is the Edward Charles Foundation? +

The charitable foundation that fiscally sponsors Run With Parkinson's. In practice it means they hold the 501(c)(3) status, receive and account for the funds, and provide the governance that a first year organization does not yet have on its own.

How much goes to research versus programs? +

A portion of every dollar goes to Team Fox, and the rest funds community programs and the cost of running them. The exact split is set each year with the foundation, and we will publish it here rather than describe it vaguely.

Can I give monthly? +

Yes, once online giving is open. Monthly gifts are the most useful kind by a distance, because they are the only income a young organization can plan a year around.

Can I give in someone's honor or memory? +

Yes. Email info@runforparkinson.org with the name and we will make sure it is recorded and, if the family wishes, acknowledged.
